FRANCES FOLSOM CLEVELAND. Executive Mansion Card signed: "Frances Folsom Cleveland", 4½x2¾. The Executive Mansion card was introduced by President Grant late in his administration. "Executive Mansion" was changed to "White House" in October 1901 by Theodore Roosevelt and shortly thereafter to "The White House". The White House card is still in use today. When Frances Folsom's father died, she was 11 and his law partner, Grover Cleveland, became her guardian. "Uncle Cleve" took care of Frances and her mother as if they were his own. Ten years later, on June 2, 1886, the 49-year-old bachelor President married his 21-year-old ward in the White House. They had two sons and three daughters. Grover Cleveland died in 1908 at the age of 71. On February 10, 1913, his 48-year-old widow married 32-year-old Princeton archeology professor Thomas Jex Preston (1880-1955), Jr. First Lady Helen Taft threw them a pre-wedding reception at the White House.
